Stuck on the wind shrine Breath of the Wild going up puzzle? Discover the solution, tips, and hidden tricks in this full walkthrough guide.

Yes, the wind shrine Breath of the Wild going up challenge, where going up isn’t as easy as jumping in the air, was one of the most humbling moments I’ve had in Zelda.

If you’re stranded and don’t know why the wind isn’t carrying you as it should, or if you’re just plain lost in the temple’s architecture, you’re at the proper place. Trust me, I’ve been there and I wrote down what happened.

This guide will show you how to solve the wind shrine Breath of the Wild going up challenge, step by step, especially the part that everyone hates: “going up.” I’ll be mixing in my own experiences, suggestions for playing the game, and all the tricks I’ve learnt along the road.

Let’s get started (or rather, fly up)!

Quick Answer: What to Do at the Wind Shrine When You Can’t Go Up If You’re Short on Time or Stuck at the Lift Here’s the short version:

Stand right over the source of the wind or updraft.

Jump straight up, then quickly open your paraglider.

The wind should take you up, but only if you’re in the right position.

If nothing happens, make sure that:

The fans or vents are on (some need switches or triggers to work).

There is nothing above you that is blocking your way.

You’re not missing a hidden gust point (some of them are revealed later in the problem).

Now that we’ve talked about the quick repair, let’s speak about the shrine itself and why it’s so famous and, at times, frustrating.

What Shrine Are We Talking About?

When players type “wind shrine Breath of the Wild going up,” they are probably talking about one of these shrines:

“Shira Gomar Shrine” means “Aim for the Moment.”

This temple is famous for its updraft challenge, which involves wind currents, time, and precise gliding. It is in the Gerudo Highlands.

“Path of Hidden Winds” is the name of the Sha Warvo Shrine.

Located in the Hebra region, this is one of the most beautiful wind-based shrines. You can ride wind currents up into a vertical chamber with floating platforms.

Both shrines have hard vertical wind puzzles that test your knowledge of physics, how paragliding works, and how to time things in space. I’m going to talk largely on Sha Warvo Shrine in this article because that’s the one people usually have trouble with when they try to “go up.”

How I Got to Hebra: Finding the Shrine My butt is freezing

I was chilly in just my Hylian Tunic because I didn’t check the temperature gauge before going into the Hebra zone. The Sha Warvo Shrine caught my eye since it glowed like a beacon on the side of the cliff. What I didn’t realize was that it was going to be one of my best shrine experiences ever.

How to Get There:

The Sha Warvo Shrine is on a rocky outcrop about northwest of Rito Village.

The Akh Va’quot Shrine in Rito Village is a good place to warp.

Pack some clothes that can handle the cold, or drink some spicy drinks, for Hebra’s weather is no joke.

The Puzzle Starts: “Path of Hidden Winds”

When you walk in, you see what looks like a vertical wind shaft. It’s a huge open room with platforms and gusts of wind coming up from the floor. It seems easy, right?

No.

The shrine makes it look like there’s an easy route to get through, but if you try to force your way through, you’ll become trapped or, worse, fall into the void over and over.

Here’s how I finally figured it out.

A step-by-step guide on how to go to the Wind Shrine

Step 1: Watch the Wind Flow

Look up. Pay attention to the wind columns’ direction and speed. Some currents are always there, while others come and go. You should move, just like the platforms do.

Tip: Before you jump, look at the pattern. The timing is really important!

Step 2: Jump and glide into the wind. Stand right above the initial wind updraft, jump straight up, and open your paraglider right away. The wind won’t catch you right if you’re even a bit off-center.

At first, I kept falling because I jumped too soon or turned a little to the side. It’s more accurate than you may expect.

Step 3: Use the wind to go to each platform.

Use the wind to get to each level, and then glide across to the next one. Be patient with the ones that move; wait until they are in line with your position.

Don’t worry if the current doesn’t go up high enough at first. Some platforms have switches or pressure plates that are hard to see. These make the wind stronger.

Step 4: Look for the Hidden Wind Stream

This is the moment where most people get stopped, which is where the search “wind shrine Breath of the Wild going up” comes from. You will come to what looks like a dead end around halfway through the shrine.

There is no clear way up. The breeze doesn’t get you high enough.

But there is a secret wind stream behind a wall or above a ledge.

Solution: Jump from the platform and glide down behind the wall or around the corner. You will find a secret wind stream that takes you further higher.

Step 5: Get to the Last Platform and Chest (if you want)

There is often an optional chest at the top that may hold fantastic goodies like weapons or opals. Before you get to the end, make sure to look for that last updraft near the altar of the shrine.

Why this shrine is a great place to learn about BOTW mechanics

Please let me take a step back. I remember this shrine not just because it was hard, but also because it taught me about verticality and momentum in Breath of the Wild.

Most games, on the other hand, regard “jump” like a switch. But in BOTW, the wind changes, gliding takes skill, and physics are important.

That was when I realized I wasn’t jumping wrong; I just wasn’t in the right place for the updraft. Changing the game.

It’s like trying to leap onto a trampoline from the incorrect side. You can bounce as much as you want, but if you’re off balance, you won’t move anywhere.

Common Errors and How to Fix Them

Let’s fix the greatest problems I’ve encountered (and have myself):

“I Jump But Don’t Go Up” Solution: You probably aren’t in line with the center of the updraft. Slowly walk to the middle, then jump and open your glider right away.

“The Wind Stops Working” ✅ Fix: Some shrines contain switches or triggers that turn on gusts. To turn on a switch, look for pressure plates or shoot it with an arrow.

“I Can’t Get to the Next Platform” Answer: You’re not going high enough since you missed the concealed gust. Try jumping and gliding around corners or toward walls that appear like they might be hiding something.

❌ “The Platforms Are Too Far” Solution: Wait for the moving platforms to get closer, and don’t forget to ride the wind higher before you go sideways.

Real Talk: This Shrine Made Me Angry (and Then Happy)

You know those times when you’re playing a game and you think, “I’m clearly doing everything right”? The game must be broken.

Yes, that was me. I was halfway into Sha Warvo Shrine, walking back and forth on a floating platform, sure that something was wrong.

I just didn’t see the hidden wind current that was behind the wall.

And what did I do when I found it? That exhilaration of flying higher, the music getting louder, and the understanding that I figured it out on my own (well, after 20 minutes of obstinate trial and error)? Just happiness.

These are the kinds of puzzles that will stick with you long after you’ve played Breath of the Wild. The wind shrine doesn’t simply test your talent; it also challenges your patience, perception, and desire to try new things.

If you’re ever unsure and upset, just search for “wind shrine Breath of the Wild going up” on Google. You’ll see that you’re not the only one.

Hidden Treasure Chest at the Wind Shrine as a bonus

If you’re like me and love to loot, you probably want to know if there’s a secret chest in this shrine.

Spoiler: There is.

How to Get It:

After you reach the second main platform, look to the right side as you go up.

A side gust takes you to a secret alcove.

Inside, there is a chest with a rare weapon or gemstone.

You don’t have to do it, but I strongly suggest that you do.

Other Shrines That Use Wind Mechanics

Shira Gomar Shrine (puzzles using timed wind and balls)

Tah Muhl Shrine (uses both fire and wind)

Kah Okeo Shrine has a wind puzzle with fans that turn on when you switch them on.

When you learn how to control wind currents, you’ll find chances all around you, such as updrafts on mountains and Korok seed puzzles that use leaves and fans.

Key Takings:

  • That day, I learned more than simply how to solve a puzzle. As a gamer, I discovered something about myself.
  • I learned to take my time. To cease trying to get through every shrine by brute force. To pay attention to the world around me and what the game is truly trying to teach me.
  • And yes, I also learned that I need to carry warm clothes next time.
  • If you’re trapped on the wind shrine in Breath of the Wild and can’t figure out how to “go up,” just keep this in mind:
